Mars Dreaming

Crossing Paths II
We do all know eachother, right? Right?

18:08:29 * Alex Putnam was invited by Jssra
18:08:34 * Alex Putnam joins MarsDreaming
18:08:43 ‹Jssra› Heya.
18:13:16 ‹Alex Putnam› And back. Wanna see my prototype Dungeon World character sheets? :O
18:13:48 ‹Jssra› Sure. :)
18:16:32 ‹Alex Putnam› and
18:18:10 ‹Alex Putnam› Anyways. Character buildy bits.
18:18:51 ‹Alex Putnam› Looks like the Google Docs “chars” hasn’t been updated. :-k
18:19:15 ‹Jssra› Nice. The multi-line stuff is getting cut off at the bottom, though, most noticable under the “race” section.
18:19:42 ‹Alex Putnam› Totally depends on what program you’re using and how you have it set.
18:19:55 ‹Jssra› Excel, nothing special.
18:19:57 ‹Alex Putnam› Hence the PDF as well.
18:20:20 ‹Jssra› Ah! I didn’t notice the difference in file extension.
18:21:10 ‹Jssra› Khalil’s sheet is up on OP, and I think Seeker wanted to put his up on the messageboards first.
18:21:32 ‹Alex Putnam› Have links handy?
18:22:39 ‹Jssra›
18:23:04 ‹Jssra›
18:23:40 ‹Jssra› (Khalil’s may be under present editing; I’m talking with her player elsewindow.)
18:24:45 ‹Alex Putnam› Ah, ‘kay. See everything BUT the phases on Obsidian Portal.
18:26:54 * Alex Putnam pokes David.
18:27:07 ‹Jssra› Okie.
18:28:34 ‹Jssra› I’d appreciate it if everyone would use Khalil’s sheet as a style guide; I tweaked the formatting until it was easy to read.
18:29:00 ‹Alex Putnam› Sure. So, we have Krasnyy, Khalil, and…?
18:29:51 ‹Jssra› Oladon’s as-yet-unnamed character, which she assures me will be done by Monday.
18:30:35 ‹Alex Putnam› And David is who again?
18:30:46 ‹Jssra› The flexbot mecha.
18:30:47 ‹Alex Putnam› And does Oladon have a concept to go with the lack of name?
18:31:17 ‹Jssra› Yes. “Young Barsoomian Freedom-Fighter”.
18:31:20 ‹Alex Putnam› Which is also not currently statted or concepted out? :-k
18:32:01 ‹Jssra› Correct. If David actually intends to join, I figure it will be late, because I’m not going to wait for him.
18:32:29 ‹Alex Putnam› Ah. Okay. Brain is starting to grok the big picture now.
18:32:43 ‹Jssra› Cool.
18:35:31 ‹Alex Putnam› Suggestions for crossing paths?
18:36:37 ‹Jssra› Khalil does both high and low society with her own particular flair.
18:38:32 ‹Jssra› (IIRC, she’s planning to wear synthetic-‘live’ ears and tail when not in high-society contexts, anime-neko style.)
18:41:36 ‹Alex Putnam› And she appears to be closer to a traditional hacker/cracker?
18:43:04 ‹Alex Putnam› brb, :noms:
18:45:04 ‹Jssra› Pretty much, yeah. Her day job is engineering-related, but she’s got involved with the vigilante group that does extra monitoring of the TQZ, and that’s demanded she learn quite a bit in the way of nontraditional “engineering” skills.
19:03:24 ‹Alex Putnam› Back.
19:03:53 ‹Jssra› Rehi.
19:05:06 ‹Alex Putnam› So, perhaps they bumped into each other while Vincent was looking for a pre-Fall artifact of suspected-TQZ origin?
19:05:43 ‹Jssra› Playsible.
19:05:48 ‹Jssra› Plausible.
19:06:58 ‹Alex Putnam› More plausible suggestions?
19:07:52 ‹Jssra› Let me see if I can get Kendra in here. :)
19:10:23 * Strangess joins marsdreaming
19:10:46 ‹Jssra› Hihi.
19:11:47 ‹Jssra› There are some /damned/ strange artifacts to come out of the TQZ, I should note.
19:11:52 ‹Strangess› yips and catches up on the backscroll
19:12:01 ‹Strangess› oh Khalil certainly loves that part of it :)
19:12:06 ‹Strangess› even when they’re terrifying
19:12:24 ‹Jssra› That’s one of the reasons people keep trying to smuggle stuff across the border.
19:12:25 ‹Strangess› kitties are easily bored
19:14:17 ‹Strangess› Khalil has the borderline recklessness of someone raggedly clinging to the anti-nihlist path and needing adrenaline as a stopgap against bleak futility :)
19:14:56 ‹Jssra› (Of the ‘TITAN human-genestock experiments in stasis’ going around, there’s public knowledge of the Lamb Baby and the Porous Conjoined. They’ve changed hands for truly obscene amounts of money.)
19:15:59 ‹Strangess› (money is just toilet paper if you don’t use it for stuff you really CARE about :) )
19:16:18 ‹Strangess› (people are sitting on a lot of toilet paper since I think Mars has a somewhat MMO’ish economy for the rich)
19:16:38 ‹Jssra› (If they’re ever removed from stasis, it’s unclear whether they’d be viable. But rather probable that they’d be highly dangerous, given TITAN tech.)
19:16:46 ‹Strangess› (I mean in terms of both noncurrency social capital and literal hard assets)
19:16:58 ‹Jssra› (Ha! Yes, more or less.)
19:17:35 ‹Strangess› (Everyone lives in both need and dread of the next expansion, since yes,it will curb boredom, but yes, it may mean utter extinction)
19:17:58 ‹Jssra› I’m tempted to try and draw the Porous Conjoined, as an exercise in body horror.
19:18:26 ‹Alex Putnam› (Why are we talking with parentheses? Are they like [brackets]? Do they build character?) :P
19:18:34 ‹Strangess› Think of it as someone’s experiment with making those “parrot” glyphs >_> 3D…
19:18:56 ‹Strangess› (oh I’m just noting these are tangents since i"m not sure what the main conversation topic is)
19:18:59 ‹Jssra› Strangess and I tend to have threaded conversations.
19:19:12 ‹Jssra› With multiple threads going concurrently.
19:19:40 ‹Alex Putnam› I normally do that without notations. Anyway, I’m attempting to figure out Vincent’s crossing paths bits so I can move on to the stunts and aspects and things.
19:22:03 ‹Alex Putnam› Or would it be possible to skip to the latter for better use of Jssratime?
19:23:13 ‹Strangess› well, conceptually my character does two things to articulate her endless ferreting/mystery seeking: she hides/sneaks and she hacks/tinkers.
19:23:15 ‹Jssra› Either or. I’m on a night schedule (for some approximation of the term) lately.
19:23:55 ‹Strangess› She’s aloof but open to engagement by anyone of reasonable probity and even sometimes unreasonable probity if they’re interesting enough.
19:24:29 ‹Alex Putnam› Vincent certainly does the latter, but more out of an appreciation of the handmade and for what things tinkering can allow access to.
19:24:49 ‹Strangess› her motto is “Happiness is playing with fire once you’ve learned how convection and combustion work”
19:25:45 ‹Strangess› (nods) with Khalil tinkering and engineering is more her attempt to connect to a side of life that is neglected in current civilization. almost a religious discipline in a way o_O
19:25:53 ‹Strangess› albeit in the Discordian church :)
19:26:34 ‹Strangess› what sort of shared goal or struggle would you like to connect our chars through?
19:27:22 ‹Alex Putnam› Crafting/Tinkering? Pursuit of things lost?
19:28:47 ‹Strangess› okay. are there any technologies we lost in the crash, or do you mean something esoteric like figuring out the Roman formula for concrete?
19:29:10 ‹Jssra› The idea of tracking down an artifact of TQZ origin sounds like a good first meeting. Khalil would want to determine whether it was safe enough to allow to circulate, and Vincent would want to record everything about it.
19:29:11 ‹Strangess› or that weird dye the Mayans used at the one sacrificial pool at Chichen Itza which we still can’t duplicate even though it’s pretty as anything?
19:29:13 ‹Alex Putnam› Mathematician’s yes. :P
19:30:14 ‹Strangess› (nods) the key part in playing with fire is its no fun if you get burned, though you have to accept some chance of a miscalculation or you can’t do it in the first place
19:30:27 ‹Alex Putnam› Jssra: Would there be mundane objects leftover in the TQZ-area in a sort of Pripyat sort of way?
19:31:05 ‹Jssra› Alex Putnam: Yep, plenty. Whether they remain mundane is the question of the day. :)
19:31:52 ‹Alex Putnam› Then those would be the things Vincent would likely be most interested in, moreso than the “Titan-changed horrors that make the news blogs”
19:32:34 ‹Jssra› Particularly, there were refugee camps for people who fled Earth after the Fall began, but before the TITAN attack on Mars.
19:32:52 ‹Strangess› Hrm? the fact these items are of uncertain state now they’ve been in the Forbidden Zone so long you mean?
19:33:01 ‹Jssra› A couple of cities that pre-date the Fall, too.
19:33:11 ‹Jssra› Strangess: Yes.
19:34:02 ‹Strangess› Yah, she’d be down with investigating that sort of thing. the size of the ? around stuff in the zone would be a big plus for her.
19:35:02 ‹Jssra› (Either or both of you will probably want a guardian nano-hive if you’re messing with anything to be come out of the TQZ. They’re rentable for ostensibly mundane purposes, but also not terribly expensive to buy outright.)
19:36:23 ‹Alex Putnam› What would you call the aspect drawn from such a crossing?
19:37:53 ‹Strangess› What is the root of Vincent’s enjoyment of this type of mystery?
19:40:04 ‹Alex Putnam› [Linked Aspect: Remembering What We Forgot] | [Linked Aspect: Not Everything’s Online]
19:40:54 ‹Jssra› Vincent was Canadian, yes?
19:40:59 ‹Alex Putnam› A deeply rooted antiquarianism of the futility of forgetting the past, and in some cases, rejection the short-sighted, instant-gratification mindset of the post-Fall meshed-in generation.
19:41:07 ‹Alex Putnam› Originally, yes.
19:42:32 ‹Alex Putnam› Those are the two/three Aspects I have down currently.
19:42:40 ‹Strangess› I’d say the second is a solid link. The first one…a shade off for Khalil’s part. For her, more like Wrestling With The Boundaries of Ignorance
19:42:49 ‹Jssra› How about “Secrets On Ice” (what with even Mars’ equatorial zone being tundra still)?
19:43:09 ‹Alex Putnam› I like it. :D
19:43:27 ‹Strangess› That’ll do. its more specific, but Khalil’s invested a lot in being ready to grapple with them.
19:43:32 ‹Jssra› Cool.
19:43:58 ‹Jssra› (In general, more specific wording of aspects is better. It gives them more depth.)
19:45:23 ‹Jssra› (The example set from the CRB is “Knight” vs. “Knight of the Chalice” vs. “Renegade Knight of the Chalice”.)
19:45:46 ‹Alex Putnam› Mmhmm.
19:46:31 ‹Strangess› Khalil appreciates the value of learning from history but its not a key drive with her because she’s too pessimistic about the likelihood of humans getting through crises even WITH the cliff notes.
19:47:35 ‹Jssra› Crossing Paths aspects don’t have to be reciprocal, fortunately.
19:47:39 ‹Strangess› to her the key is less the wisdom than the resolve and discipline and discernment to make hard choices successfully and pay the costs upfront (instead of making someone else pay)
19:48:55 ‹Jssra› Does that “someone else” include her own future-self?
19:49:53 ‹Strangess› well, that’s obviously one of the most tempting types of involuntarily allocated costs because future you can’t punch you in the jaw for egregious inequity :)
19:50:14 ‹Jssra› Hehe!
19:50:45 ‹Strangess› she’s not a fan of kicking cans down the road, though she’s learned from the blackmail episodes sometimes that’s all you can do and future self will have to suck it o_o
19:51:05 ‹Jssra› “I will punch myself so hard that my backups will feel it!” ;)
19:51:28 ‹Strangess› but its certainly best to have blinking neon post its about “btw, IOReality for Past Me’s crisis”
19:51:55 * Alex Putnam digs out his Fate Core rulebook out of his laptop bag, where it was left after his business trip.
19:51:57 ‹Alex Putnam› Thar we go.
19:53:15 ‹Strangess› ((as a total aside, I remember the one spate of videotape someone had from Pripyat the night Chernobyl blew…and the little annotation to the video “those flashes of light on the film mean anyone taking this video got a lethal dose”
19:53:17 ‹Strangess› ))
19:54:03 ‹Strangess› ((tragedy, paying for your society’s flaws))
19:55:26 ‹Jssra› ((If you can see Cherenkov Blue in air rather than water, then you are so screwed. Hopefully none of us will ever need that data.))
19:57:28 ‹Jssra› ((I’ve seen the color in water, firsthand, when I toured a nuclear power plant. Very pretty.))
19:58:08 ‹Alex Putnam› Yup. It’s basically a sonic boom, for light instead of sound. :)
19:58:45 ‹Jssra› Best description. :D
19:58:48 ‹Strangess› ((“the colour of doom” well at least it’s blue. I like blue :) if it has to be the hue of my incipient death the only one I’d rather is some shades of purple :) ))
20:04:07 ‹Alex Putnam› The Crossing Paths bit is too long to post in chat, so
20:06:38 ‹Jssra› Rock on.
20:06:58 ‹Jssra› Also, I totally forgot that document existed.
20:07:04 ‹Alex Putnam› :P
20:08:38 * Jssra doesn’t trust the “cloud”. Working at a data center taught her that it really is ephemeral.
20:09:00 ‹Alex Putnam› Yup. Hence why I’m typing on my compy and copying it to that only to share it.
20:19:08 ‹Alex Putnam› What’s the time for first-person sensory recording in EP?
20:19:11 ‹Alex Putnam› term
20:19:28 ‹Jssra› XP-cast.
20:21:48 ‹Jssra› Got any stunts in mind, yet?
20:21:52 ‹Alex Putnam› And second (first?) Crossing Paths done. :woot:
20:22:01 ‹Alex Putnam› I’m open for suggestions.
20:22:10 ‹Alex Putnam› Ego or otherwise?
20:22:56 ‹Strangess› hrm. well we have two muscle. maybe some social skills? mine are a bit limited.
20:23:07 ‹Jssra› Your morph is going to have Temperature Tolerance (Improved Cold) if you’ve been hanging out on Titan.
20:23:11 ‹Strangess› Khalil’s too >_>
20:23:57 ‹Jssra› The MarsMod package is just Temperature Tolerance & Enhanced Respiration (Mars), actually.
20:25:06 ‹Alex Putnam› Jssra: Yeah, after reading things and after he lost his original morph, Vincent is likely using a slightly-tweaked Hazer.
20:26:03 ‹Jssra› Okie.
20:26:35 ‹Jssra› Incidentally, Krasnyy is sleeved into a Fury for his Mars-related work.
20:27:17 ‹Jssra› (Recent change.)
20:28:12 ‹Alex Putnam› Recent change as in-character change or retcon to what was on the GoogleDoc doc?
20:29:24 ‹Jssra› Retcon. Seeker decided that the boss-man had enough resources to give him something specialized.
20:33:55 ‹Alex Putnam› How do you markup underlines on Obsidian Portal?
20:34:10 ‹Jssra› +Stuff+
20:34:39 ‹Alex Putnam› Thanks.
20:35:14 ‹Jssra› No problem.
20:37:32 ‹Alex Putnam› Is ‘Notice’ still a Skill? It’s listed on the Muse section?
20:37:49 ‹Jssra› Whoops, sorry. That should be Alertness.
20:41:51 ‹Alex Putnam› Right, as discussed earlier, first ego stunt is Eidetic Memory.
20:42:34 ‹Jssra› Okie.
20:42:57 * Jssra updates the example character sheet.
20:43:42 ‹Alex Putnam› Suggestions on the other two Ego stunts… maybe Hardened[isolation] and Information Control?
20:45:23 ‹Jssra› Hmm. Why would he be hardened against isolation?
20:46:08 ‹Alex Putnam› Screaming introvert who doesn’t mind spending time in abandoned places?
20:46:35 ‹Alex Putnam› He’d appreciate the ‘corpses of civilization’ rather than being unsettled by them.
20:47:12 ‹Jssra› Ah, cool.
20:47:46 ‹Alex Putnam› Information Control because that’s how he rolls. He’s well aware from his job and training that any connection out always means the possibility for a connection in.
20:48:17 ‹Alex Putnam› See also Not Everything’s Online. :P
20:48:25 ‹Jssra› Yup.
20:49:29 ‹Alex Putnam› What’s next? Stress, or morph/morph stunts? :-k
20:50:04 ‹Jssra› Your Ego stunts look good, although you’re not necessarily limited to the example set.
20:50:28 ‹Alex Putnam› Well, I’m having trouble coming up with things better, unless you have more appropo examples.
20:50:44 ‹Alex Putnam› Also, the campaign front page and the main wiki page.don’t correspond as far as links.
20:51:05 ‹Jssra› Ehwhoops.
20:55:39 ‹Jssra› Maybe something tied to Hardware (Archaeoelectronics) for serious feats of technological reconstruction? :)
20:56:33 ‹Alex Putnam› So, are Ego stunts those that penalize your refresh for picking more than three? Or does the choice of morph affect it as well?
20:57:20 ‹Jssra› I’m treating morph features as purely story-based, for now. If there’s narrative justification, you’ve got it.
20:59:30 ‹Alex Putnam› Right, so how I convert the Hazer morph to campaign spec? :P
20:59:40 ‹Alex Putnam› For what I have thus far.
21:00:21 ‹Jssra› In Vincent’s case, all that time he spent on the Scum barge would have given him plenty of time to get fixed up to his hearts’ content. ;)
21:02:00 ‹Alex Putnam› True, but not what I was asking. :-k
21:02:43 ‹Jssra› I’m pulling up Rimward as we speak.
21:02:47 ‹Alex Putnam›
21:09:37 ‹Jssra› Hazer stunts: Temperature Tolerance (Enh. Cold), Low Pressure Tolerance (since the atmosphere on Titan isn’t all that dense; typically comes with direct ports for supplemental oxygen hookups), Sensor Suite (incorporates both enhanced vision & radiation sense).
21:09:47 ‹Jssra› Physique: +1
21:10:17 ‹Jssra› Aptitude: Pick two at L1.
21:14:56 ‹Jssra› Vincent would have three options for walking around outside on Mars: One is just an oxygen concetrator, like ordinary people use. (Trivial cost, ubiquitous availability.) Another is to carry the supplemental oxygen tanks and rely on them. (Recharge is trivial, but not quite so commonly available.) Or, third, pick up Enhanced Resp. (Mars).
21:15:20 * Strangess was consumed by the Chatbeast (NOM!)
21:19:30 ‹Alex Putnam› And where do the Respirocytes come in?
21:20:45 ‹Jssra› Abstracted into Low Pressure Tolerance.
21:21:44 ‹Alex Putnam› Where are the aptitudes explained?
21:22:18 ‹Jssra› (‘cause without them, it’d be really easy to get altitude sickness.)
21:22:38 ‹Jssra› Aptitudes are at the top of the Morph Examples page.
21:22:53 ‹Jssra› No list, but they’re meant to be broader than skills.
21:23:16 ‹Alex Putnam› >_< I was hoping for a list.
21:23:27 ‹Jssra› Ah, hmm.
21:24:58 ‹Jssra› So, what an aptitude does is allow you to ignore a number of (-) dice equal to its level. It represents the morphs’ instincts, more or less.
21:25:28 ‹Alex Putnam› So, what would examples of appropriate aptitudes be for a Titanian? :-k
21:26:12 ‹Jssra› So, for example, someone sleeved into a Bouncer just isn’t going to make the kind of basic free-fall mistakes that someone in a Splicer might be vulnerable to.
21:27:52 ‹Jssra› (Ones I’ve used on the example morphs: Cognition, Body, Social, Pilot, Warfare, Awareness, Infiltration, Reflexes.)
21:29:34 ‹Jssra› I might give a Hulder the aptitudes Body & Cold. Not sure about a Hazer. :-k
21:31:54 * Rathendar joins MarsDreaming
21:32:45 ‹Jssra› Hi Rathendar. You might also be interested in the first group conversation, which is up on the adventure log:
21:33:09 ‹Rathendar› ok!
21:33:13 ‹Alex Putnam› There were go! Forgot the Transhuman player’s guide book thing. :P
21:33:19 ‹Rathendar› and hi alex! i asked permission first!
21:33:31 ‹Alex Putnam› For?
21:33:51 ‹Jssra› Alex Putnam: What did you find?
21:34:08 ‹Rathendar› if people have a separate chat tab, its rude to just join/crash it unannounced IMO
21:34:15 ‹Alex Putnam› An example Hazer statted up under the EC rules.
21:34:33 ‹Jssra› Ah, cool.
21:34:54 ‹Alex Putnam› “Titanian Programmer-Archaeologist” #-o
21:35:10 ‹Jssra›
21:38:41 ‹Alex Putnam› In EC terms, Hazers have built-in advantages to +5 COO, +5 WIL. That is, COOrdination and WILlpower. :-k
21:38:46 ‹Jssra› FYI, this conversation will also be going up on the adventure log when we decide we’re done.
21:39:38 ‹Jssra› Aptitude: Stubbornness? ;)
21:41:28 ‹Jssra› (I might personally phrase it as “sheer bloody-minded stubbornness”, having seen something like that in action. ;) )
21:41:51 ‹Alex Putnam› “Aptitude Coordination 1 – Ignore 1 negative die on rolls related to manual dexterity, fine motor control, or balance.”?
21:43:39 ‹Jssra› Sounds good to me.
21:45:02 ‹Alex Putnam› Okay, determining stress threshholds?
21:46:08 ‹Jssra› Yep.
21:47:45 ‹Jssra› Durability: 2, Lucidity: 3, Reputation: 2. Wealth: N/A because it’s a bucket for aspects.
21:53:17 ‹Rathendar› is alex an android?
21:53:28 ‹Rathendar› (finally got read up to the bottom/current)
21:53:59 ‹Jssra› Nah, a heavily modified biomorph.
21:55:36 ‹Rathendar› gotcha
22:00:35 ‹Alex Putnam› And Fate/Refresh?
22:02:37 ‹Jssra› You start with 5 points of Refresh and spend one on each Ego stunt after the 2nd. The remainder, you get as Fate Points.
22:03:40 ‹Jssra› What’s Vincent’s muse like?
22:04:28 ‹Alex Putnam›
22:05:02 ‹Alex Putnam› Political scientist. Takes care of the political mesh-Tweeting so he doesn’t have to.
22:05:21 ‹Rathendar› haha, stubborn bastich
22:05:34 ‹Alex Putnam› Sheet should be mostly done. @_@
22:05:43 ‹Alex Putnam› Rathendar: Blame the GM’s suggestion. :P
22:06:13 ‹Jssra› Given that the muse is half NPC, how do you want me to play it?
22:06:38 ‹Alex Putnam› Ugh, sheet found turned a +1 into all the underlining ever. @_@
22:07:29 * Jssra checks the markup on Khalil’s sheet. She fixed that somehow…
22:08:13 ‹Alex Putnam› Yeah, there’s an exclude markup in case you actually want to use +'s.
22:08:41 ‹Jssra› I didn’t use it – remind me what that is?
22:09:22 ‹Alex Putnam› I can’t remember. That’s why I’m grumbling. >_<
22:10:05 ‹Alex Putnam› Here we go: “You can escape a section of text in Textile by surrounding it with ==”
22:11:30 ‹Jssra› Aha! Good to know.
22:12:05 ‹Alex Putnam› Right, fixed. Hit refresh and such.
22:12:38 ‹Jssra› One thing, though: There isn’t any ‘armor’ as such in this game. It’s abstracted away into your Physique score.
22:13:52 ‹Alex Putnam› I’ll leave you to adjust the crunch on those last three mods, then.
22:13:56 ‹Alex Putnam› I need to hit the hay. @_@
22:14:24 ‹Jssra› Okie.It’s a relatively minor adjustment.
22:14:30 ‹Jssra› Sleep well. :)
22:14:43 ‹Alex Putnam› Is there a spot on the Paizo fora for the campaign yet?
22:14:54 ‹Rathendar› its been an interesting skim/read , thanks for letting me peek
22:15:02 ‹Jssra›
22:15:56 ‹Alex Putnam› Bookmarked. Poke me when we’re due to start. :)
22:15:59 ‹Jssra› Rathendar: No problem. (We may also have lost a player, since he’s gone non-responsive. So if you’re interested in joining, let me know.)
22:16:04 ‹Jssra› Shall do!
22:16:58 ‹Rathendar› a kind offer, i will consider it. not sure how high i could commit to tho, work has a satellite launch window on june 12th which could put me into mandatory overtime (60+ hour weeks) through august
22:17:16 ‹Jssra› Ew.
22:17:24 ‹Alex Putnam› SPAAACCCEEEE! :omgomg:
22:17:49 ‹Jssra› Expected posting rate is 2-3x/week. It’s fun when things are going faster, but everyone’s got lives to live.
22:18:26 ‹Alex Putnam› :gninja:
22:18:44 ‹Rathendar› hmm, that’s slow/maybe in my range
22:19:07 * Alex Putnam was consumed by the Chatbeast (NOM!)
22:20:23 ‹Jssra› (I initially had a mistaken notion that we could’ve started playing around May 15th. I had neglected to consider the end-of-semester deadline pileup. _ )
22:20:41 ‹Rathendar› heheheheh
22:20:55 ‹Rathendar› ah yes. desire and reality. so different =/
22:21:03 ‹Jssra› Yup.
22:21:11 ‹Jssra› In general, I consider 3 active players to be a quorum for keeping things moving.
22:21:16 ‹Rathendar› do you have a general premise?
22:21:42 ‹Jssra› Are you familiar with the Eclipse Phase setting?
22:22:05 ‹Rathendar› peripherally. (not very)
22:22:33 ‹Jssra› The sourcebooks are free under creative commons. I can link if you want. :)
22:23:19 ‹Rathendar› hm. sure. please do
22:25:09 ‹Jssra›
22:28:04 ‹Rathendar› got it, thank you. starting a casual perusal
22:28:32 ‹Rathendar› i think this will be useful for me regardless ;) i am groundworking a Star Hero game (hero system)
22:29:00 ‹Jssra› Excellent. :)
22:29:03 ‹Jssra› But, basically, the defining event of the game world is the Fall. had built tactical/strategy AI’s with the capacity to self-modify + sufficient hardware resources to make it worthwhile. When turned on, they staged a hard takeoff singularity in the course of a few days (having grabbed massive off-site computational power to do so with).
22:30:33 ‹Rathendar› ok
22:30:42 ‹Jssra› And then, for reasons as yet unknown, they turned on humanity. Forcibly uploaded as many people as they could get robotic hands on, and made a good solid stab at killing the rest. – And then vanished to nobody-knows-where.
22:31:40 ‹Rathendar› is this simply deep ‘hard science’ sci fi? or does it have Lovecrafty also? (i could be thinking different game)
22:31:55 ‹Jssra› It’s been ten years, and all dates are now reckoned After Fall (AF). Humanity is still pretty shell-shocked. And everybody is paranoid that wherever the TITAN superintelligences went, they might come back.
22:32:44 ‹Jssra› If you probe too deeply at the underpinnings of reality (or build an async/psychic character), it can get Lovecraftian very quickly.
22:33:50 ‹Rathendar› aha, then it is the one i thought. ok
22:34:01 ‹Rathendar› it feels like a deeper progressed shadowrun in a way
22:35:07 ‹Jssra› How so? I’ve never played Shadowrun.
22:35:24 * Strangess joins MarsDreaming
22:35:33 ‹Jssra› Hihi.
22:36:56 ‹Rathendar› just underpinings. threads. behind the scenes cracks.
22:37:25 ‹Rathendar› shadowrun is closer to cyberpunk with corp intrigue, and this looks a bit more..ghost-in-the-shell
22:37:35 ‹Strangess› Alex Putnam: I vote of going with the convention from my friend’s epic middle earth campaign: if you’re not here for a round of updates, your character turns into a gem until they’re present again >_>
22:37:38 ‹Jssra› nods
22:37:51 ‹Strangess› oops that was not addressed to Alex
22:37:53 ‹Jssra› Rathendar: Strangess once summed up the concept of the campaign as "We’re the cast of Northern Exposure trying to pull off the Cuban Revolution? o_O " I had to laugh and admit that was appropriate.
22:38:01 ‹Rathendar› there was a world shake event, countries fractured, etc
22:38:08 ‹Rathendar› LOL
22:38:49 ‹Strangess› I was thinking of how she stressed how parochial and behind the times Mars is. made me think of Texas and Alaska :)
22:39:50 ‹Jssra› Oh, right. The Fall left Earth an interdicted no-man’s land full of autonomous war machines. It is Lost.
22:39:55 ‹Rathendar› good evening to you, strangess. i don’t think we’ve met
22:40:10 ‹Rathendar› lost earth, ok
22:40:39 ‹Strangess› No, I don’t think we have. All of Jssra’s friends have colorful lives though, I’m fairly sure you’re the only one who’s involved in launching satellites (it sounded like you meant that in a literal space science context)
22:41:05 ‹Strangess› so I’m very confident we haven’t met :) hai
22:41:17 ‹Rathendar› pft, we’re not friends. i don’t wanna drag her social circle lower!
22:41:35 ‹Rathendar› but yes, i work at a satellite company
22:41:41 ‹Rathendar› (orbcomm)
22:41:55 ‹Jssra› No organization will admit to funding the interdiction of Earth, and widespread suspicion is that it’s because all of them (at least, sunwards of the asteroid belt) are footing some portion of the bill.
22:42:37 ‹Strangess› It’s almost sweet seeing the oligarchs and revolutionaries of the solar system put aside their differences to agree that Earth needs a quarantine like that >_>
22:42:43 ‹Strangess› how touching, tink
22:42:54 ‹Jssra› Rathendar: “Friendly acquaintance” is the most distant I’ll allow you to claim. ;)
22:43:06 ‹Rathendar› Jssra: okay, FINE
22:43:09 ‹Rathendar› hehe
22:43:15 ‹Jssra›
22:43:24 ‹Rathendar› you don’t even know my name!
22:43:32 ‹Jssra› So what?
22:43:40 ‹Rathendar› never met meh!
22:43:50 ‹Rathendar› etc etc. naw, you win. we be friends
22:44:00 ‹Jssra› Hehe. Glad to hear it.
22:44:29 ‹Jssra› (And for the record, there are a good few of my friends I’ve met in person who are strictly pseudonymous.)
22:44:46 ‹Strangess› everything’s in our heads. I feel a thrill of quasi religious ecstasy hearing a hymn to Fluttershy of my little pony someone composed, when I’m sure both Fluttershy and YHVH are useful fictions o_O
22:44:57 ‹Rathendar› naw, i can understand that easily. i have a few i consider damn close i have never met in person
22:45:05 ‹Jssra› :)
22:45:19 ‹Strangess› physical interaction is a worthwhile type of sharing but not the only one :)
22:47:13 ‹Strangess› if your handle indicates Scandanavian descent I must applaud the appropriateness of your career choice :)
22:47:23 ‹Jssra› As far as the arc of Mars Dreaming, I can forsee a range of medium-term outcomes from “Stability For Now”, to “Open Rebellion”, to “Holy Shit, [redacted]!”
22:47:40 ‹Rathendar› bail, bail!
22:47:46 ‹Strangess› (grins at Jssra)
22:48:14 ‹Jssra› We have two revolutionaries in the party. It may just be a matter of time. ;)
22:48:20 ‹Strangess› Khalil will be happy with any of those outcomes even if she’s privately rooting for redacted :)
22:48:57 ‹Jssra› “Happy”, right. ;)
22:50:14 ‹Jssra› Khalil couldn’t put Djinni Janni (her muse) back in the bottle. [Redacted] is nothing like so friendly. ;)
22:51:04 ‹Rathendar› tsk tsk
22:51:58 ‹Strangess› Well, you’re never so alive as when you’re going all out to avoid being killed, and fighting threats like redacted is either hopeless, so might as well pull out the parasol for the anvils from the sky, or will involve net ops, which she’s as good as anyone at
22:52:14 ‹Jssra› Hehe.
22:52:35 ‹Strangess› …its easy to advocate a life of life or death struggle if you happen to be so good at it that it would take a fluke to kill you >_>
22:52:57 ‹Strangess› she at least has the sense of humour not to be too annoyed if something finds a weakspot and ganks her with it.
22:53:27 ‹Strangess› she’d just hope she could post a posthumous entry to her blog about it somehow .
22:53:47 ‹Jssra› If her stack is recoverable, she could.
22:54:23 ‹Rathendar› intro stories are decent setting immersers
22:54:27 ‹Strangess› is there any way to set it up so she could send off a dying transmission to the net to post if somehow it’s not ? >_>
22:54:32 ‹Strangess› cool last words are very important :)
22:54:43 ‹Jssra› Yes.
22:54:53 ‹Strangess› (okay, I confess, the only way I can defuse my rabid paranoia in cyberpunk settings is to treat this like a Paranoia campaign)
22:55:13 ‹Rathendar› the computer is your friend, citizen
22:55:20 ‹Jssra› Rathendar: The game’s starting premise is that someone unnamed wants to hire you-all (through a middleman, Jhonen Smythe: to steal an item of hypercorp property while it’s in transit.
22:55:44 ‹Rathendar› hah. it IS shadowrun
22:55:47 ‹Jssra› Strangess: You have plenty of clones, Citizen. Do you doubt Friend Computer?
22:56:50 ‹Jssra› (In EP terms, you have insurance.)
22:57:15 ‹Strangess› I do not, nor do I doubt my ability to run through them quickly in the service of Alpha Complex :)
22:58:11 ‹Jssra› Rathendar: I will admit that I lifted the appearance of the opening scenario wholesale. Whether it’s actually like it seems… the PCs will find out, eventually. ;)
22:58:16 ‹Jssra› Strangess:
22:59:55 ‹Rathendar› did you? thats perfectly acceptable even
23:00:44 ‹Rathendar› i’ll finish the pdf skim, and eyeball the obsid site
23:00:45 ‹Strangess› I am agog at the potential for surprises in this setting and am presuming since this is something we’re doing for fun (rather than whatever reasons people play Kult) that we will have a chance to make meaningful reactions to these O_O and o_o moments.
23:01:23 ‹Strangess› so my whole participiation is a touching leap of faith o_O I am not someone who could DM this setting.
23:01:47 ‹Rathendar› some people have a knack for certain tropes.
23:02:08 ‹Jssra› The Martian metropoli are somewhat Shadowrun-like in their own way. The Planetary Consortium is the official government, its board members are elected by hypercorp boards, and the hypercorporate boards-of-directors are elected by the owners of voting shares. So it’s basically a veneer of a Republic over the reality of an oligarchy.
23:02:46 ‹Rathendar› dystopia.
23:03:18 ‹Jssra› You could say that. But in Eclipse Phase style, it’s a colorful one.
23:03:45 ‹Strangess› it’s really much like modern day America that way .
23:04:12 ‹Rathendar› are you familiar with the manga/anime ghost in the shell?
23:04:14 ‹Jssra› Also, the Consortium may have a plurality of the population directly under their thumb, but it controls only 1-2% of the actual land area of Mars.
23:04:39 ‹Jssra› I am not.
23:05:39 ‹Rathendar› IF you have free time/interest , its a scifi setting. using a lot of future science stuff. cybernetics have replaced flesh for the majority of humanity, some people are full conversion, being abrain map in a robot
23:05:59 ‹Jssra› Huh, cool.
23:06:02 ‹Rathendar› it covers an interesting perspective of what makes one human,
23:06:04 ‹Strangess› hrm. there’s some similarities, if you skew the proportion of squalor to opulence a bit, and modify the lowest squalor can go to I think.
23:06:20 ‹Rathendar› a ‘ghost’ effectively refers to a persons soul
23:06:41 ‹Jssra› That does sound interesting.
23:06:42 ‹Strangess› they don’t ripple the consequences of these tech advances enough, imo, but it is a very solid story and the big ideas each arc are the high points of hte ripples they have
23:06:48 ‹Strangess› which are quite interesting
23:07:07 ‹Strangess› a little action heavy, but that’s a common thing with anime.
23:07:28 ‹Strangess› had a few amazingly touching moments though. good what measure is a human stuff.
23:07:57 ‹Strangess› that’s the show with that awesome theme music I showed you :)
23:08:00 ‹Rathendar› it had a movie, anda sequal, 1st movie was neat) then it did a serialised series. 2 arcs, the first was very…thought provoking. and it could have useful ideas for …elements you want to develop
23:08:03 ‹Strangess› from the Russian
23:09:04 ‹Rathendar› anyways, i think it might be enjoyable/relevent
23:09:05 ‹Strangess› yah. its got manga too, online somewhere so you could read it eventually if you ever have the spare time/novelty pursuing energy to spare
23:09:08 ‹Strangess› its quite popular.
23:09:20 ‹Rathendar› i’d suggest movie1 then series one (the laughing man incident)
23:09:36 * Jssra makes note.
23:09:36 ‹Strangess› the first movie was the first serious anime I saw to really impress me. and yes, I’d concur.
23:09:41 ‹Rathendar› That Said, i apologise for the sidetrack
23:10:03 ‹Jssra› No problem. :)
23:10:25 ‹Jssra› Got any questions about the game?
23:10:44 ‹Rathendar› i’d need to read deeper before any pieces would click/trigger questions
23:10:54 ‹Rathendar› it’ll take me a bit
23:11:07 ‹Rathendar› i’m committed to playtime with the girlfriend here in a few
23:11:16 ‹Rathendar› so won’t be deep til mon-tues
23:11:48 ‹Jssra› Okie. I’ve got a deadline on Tuesday, so we certainly won’t be starting before then.
23:11:57 ‹Rathendar› heh heh
23:12:10 ‹Strangess› good seeing you.
23:12:41 ‹Rathendar› nice to meet you btw.

[Trimmed for long discussion of anime.]

23:26:05 ‹Rathendar› anyways, girlfriend calls. i be off
23:26:14 ‹Jssra› Hasta! :)
23:26:14 ‹Strangess› (nods) till later :)
23:26:26 ‹Rathendar› see you two tomorro wif you are around! and thanks for the chat/invite Jssra
23:27:08 * Rathendar was consumed by the Chatbeast (NOM!)
23:28:16 ‹Jssra› :dance2: Progress!

Crossing Paths
How everyone knows each other

[Ed. note: Sorry for partial cutoff at the beginning. It had scrolled out of the buffer.]

19:13:02 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› David said he would be home a bit after 10 IIRC
19:13:18 * Khalil was invited by Jssra
19:13:21 * Khalil joins MarsDreaming
19:13:50 ‹Khalil› indeed I have not
19:13:57 ‹Jssra› Hey. :)
19:14:22 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› its cool
19:14:24 ‹Khalil› (or we’re not using our char’s names here oops?)
19:14:48 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› we can go back and forth however Jssra wants to do it
19:14:59 ‹Jssra› Doesn’t matter to me.
19:15:45 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› ok, why do we not start with folks who have high concepts list the concepts
19:16:25 ‹Khalil› Er, I have a “high concept” but only in an informal sense is there a mechanic for it specifically?
19:16:30 ‹Alex Putnam› Would it be handy for me to have my Fate Core/Toolkit books handy?
19:16:52 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› the srd might unsure
19:16:53 ‹Jssra› Khalil: That’s it.
19:17:01 * Oladon raises her hand.
19:17:22 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Like mine is ‘Hidden AGi solider"
19:17:42 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› which is both the concept, and the mechanics as its an aspect
19:18:08 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Although mine may need to be fine tuned
19:18:27 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› kinda how it works, throw out a concept and the group helps you fine tune it
19:18:45 ‹Khalil› Relaxed subversive mystery seeking engineer/tinkerer
19:19:44 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› imo ya may change it to ’subversive mystery seeking engineer"
19:20:01 ‹Jssra› Khalil: You had it summed up as ’engineer with a nose for trouble’ last time?
19:20:10 ‹Oladon› Howdy everyone
19:20:22 * David was invited by Jssra
19:20:22 * David joins MarsDreaming
19:20:32 ‹Jssra› Hi David.
19:20:38 ‹David› Hi!
19:20:57 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› oh that does sound rather good
19:21:32 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Basicly you can invoke your high concept buy paying a fate point
19:21:35 * Alex Putnam is attacked by a Fate quick reference bookmark as he cracks the cover. :ohnoes:
19:21:43 ‹Khalil› Well, I wanted to emphasize it’s a little less aimless than that implies, and also missed her agenda to be part of changing the world if in a non program-like way
19:22:15 ‹Jssra› Khalil: That’s why you get more than one aspect. :)
19:22:31 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› you get 5 aspects
19:22:37 ‹Khalil› the two things go together. She’s drawn to the unusual because she is skeptical the world is as it seems; she’s drawn to resisting hegemony because she is skeptical the established order is all its cracked up to be
19:22:45 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› so you can fine tune it and have more then one
19:22:50 ‹David› Alex Putnam: Now open your other three books! :P
19:23:23 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› what about "subversive tinkers woth a nose for trouble/’
19:23:27 ‹Khalil› but she’s not an actual revolutionary, since she’s more just of the opinion “lets show people the holes in the world they are ignoring , but deftly rather than like missionaries”
19:24:03 ‹Khalil› she’s even skeptical of her own good ideas so that’s why she’s not too dogmatic, just very independent.
19:24:18 ‹Khalil› yah, I suppose if that’s not too sprawly that would do
19:25:00 * Alex Putnam kinda already had the word tinker in mind. >_>
19:25:02 * David offers Khalil the drugs to help make her dreams her reality
19:25:02 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› play around with it
19:25:43 ‹Khalil› My point is that as someone who knows how rigorous, mechanical systems have odd little emergent synergies of chaos as well as order, things aren’t as neat and tidy as they seem to be
19:25:52 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› just throw that up there and tinker with wording later
19:25:58 ‹Khalil› just because we live in a world that’s solved so many problems.
19:26:02 ‹Khalil› (nods)
19:27:02 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› I have that issue sometimes
19:27:07 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› not sure how to word it
19:27:31 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› so place something that gets the gist of it and come back later, often with a fuller idea of what ya want
19:28:09 ‹Alex Putnam› Jsrra: Have a preferred character sheet format-ish thing?
19:28:17 ‹Jssra› Alex Putnam: Yep.
19:28:29 ‹Seekerofshadowlight›
19:28:31 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› lol
19:28:40 ‹Jssra› :D
19:28:43 ‹Alex Putnam› That’s the one I have bookmarked. Righto.
19:28:57 ‹Oladon› Eep, you guys are chatting fast.
19:29:26 * Seekerofshadowlight rambles
19:29:45 * Jssra is chill and full of fried food.
19:29:46 ‹David› Oladon: Too fast?
19:29:51 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› what about you oladon, have a concept?
19:29:54 * David is readering
19:30:01 ‹Oladon› Nah, David. I was just distracted ;)
19:30:54 ‹Oladon› Seekerofshadowlight: I was toying with two ideas… one a youngster “freedom fighter” who had some kind of run-in with something from the TQZ early on in life and so is a secret AI sympathizer
19:31:26 ‹David› Oladon: Is the the other robot mafia donbot?
19:31:30 ‹Oladon› The other an older guy on his second or third body who’s been part of the Movement for a long time
19:31:34 ‹Oladon› David: Negatory
19:32:41 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› which do you think you would enjoy more?
19:33:27 ‹Oladon› Hard to say. I have a slight negative bias toward the youngster because my default mental image of it somewhat resembles a few other PCs I have active right now
19:33:38 ‹Alex Putnam› Jssra: “High Concept: Academic Titanian Archivist and Tinkering Craftsman”?
19:34:03 ‹Jssra› Alex Putnam: A bit wordy, but good for now. :)
19:34:12 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› tianian archivist might fit better under faction
19:34:45 * Jssra tends to like her aspects snappy.
19:34:56 * Alex Putnam tends to be verbose.
19:34:59 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› you could go ’ Academic Archivist and craftsmen"
19:35:23 ‹Alex Putnam› Done.
19:35:23 ‹Oladon› EP-FATE is something of the ‘collaborative storytelling’ genre, yes?
19:35:28 ‹Khalil› What’s there to the older character type, Oladon? I’m favouring world weary moderates, even though my char’s a bit young for it (wry look)
19:35:43 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Yes it is oladon
19:35:56 ‹Jssra› Oladon: Yep. That’s why I’m being fairly hands-off here. :)
19:36:34 ‹Oladon› Khalil: I imagine him (I use the term gender neutrally) as being pretty… uncaring about the TITAN issue, looking at it as very much secondary to his multi-life-long goal of freedom for Mars
19:36:46 ‹Oladon› Jssra: I’m a bit concerned about that model’s sustainability in PbP, honestly
19:37:11 ‹Jssra› Oladon: I’m following DSX’s example. :D
19:37:22 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› its just char gen
19:37:47 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› char gen is a group thing
19:38:01 ‹Oladon› Jssra: I’ve never gotten around to reading Jorvick… what’s the lowdown? :)
19:38:04 ‹Oladon› Seekerofshadowlight: Hmm?
19:38:27 ‹Jssra› Oladon: Jorvik has been going for 3yrs & 4k posts (hit the milestone today, w00t!), and it’s got a strong plot even though only DSX and one PC have participated continuously.
19:38:57 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› its mostly char gen that is like this, as your pc will be connected to two others
19:39:05 * Oladon nods at Jssra
19:39:14 ‹Oladon› Seekerofshadowlight: I’m not concerned about this chat, if that’s what you mean
19:39:21 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› what is jorvik?
19:39:47 ‹Jssra› Jorvik is the Dresden Files (FATE prototype) game that DSX runs.
19:39:54 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Ah ok
19:39:55 ‹Oladon› Jssra: I think I just need to hear that you’re still planning on being willing to move things along even if others aren’t :P
19:39:59 ‹Khalil› Oladon: what is the most engaging thing to you about the older char concept? ie what would you be emphasizing in the story with him that most interests you?
19:40:06 ‹Jssra› Seekerofshadowlight:
19:40:09 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› DF is fate, just not fate core
19:40:34 ‹Alex Putnam› DF?
19:40:41 ‹Alex Putnam› Oh, blah.
19:40:48 ‹Jssra› Oladon: I totally will, yes. Setting a scene is part of the GM’s job.
19:41:01 ‹Oladon› Khalil: Hard to say. I don’t usually identify/plan character development out much before a game
19:41:34 ‹Jssra› Oladon: What makes the older character feel alive?
19:44:15 ‹Jssra› (I’m thinking of a co-worker from my datacenter days. He was a solid, reliable programmer, but it was just a job – it didn’t excite him. If you brought up astronomy, he’d light up like you’d flipped a switch.)
19:44:30 ‹Khalil› Actually I think I can condense my high concept a bit by trying not to react to “high” as “artsy and complicated” which is how I normally interpret that phrase :)
19:44:47 ‹Jssra› Sweet. Share? :)
19:44:47 ‹Khalil› Troubled troubling troublemaker :)
19:44:58 ‹Jssra› XD
19:45:01 ‹Jssra› I like that.
19:45:20 ‹Khalil› But she’s very cheerful and relaxed about it since she got tired of anxiety in her early teen years :)
19:46:15 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› lol thats fun
19:47:06 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› ok who else?
19:47:33 ‹Alex Putnam› Faction: Titanian Commonwealth / Trouble: Speaks His Mind/No Free Speech on Mars ?
19:49:45 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› I would go with speaks her mind
19:49:50 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› sooooooooooooooooo much trouble
19:50:34 ‹Oladon› Sorry, got semi-distracted
19:51:03 ‹Oladon› Jssra: That’s the problem… I can’t really get either to feel really really exciting
19:55:25 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› what about you david
19:55:38 ‹David› I’ve got an insane AI!
19:55:42 ‹David› Wooo!
19:55:57 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› so insane Ai is the high concept?
19:56:00 ‹Oladon› Is it based on my bot?!
19:56:19 * David is an insane AI thug/drug dealer who will do anything for an easy payday
19:56:22 ‹Jssra› (Ahh, tea. How do I love thee? Let me taste the ways…)
19:56:22 ‹David› Oladon, no!
19:56:43 ‹Oladon› David: :(
19:57:01 ‹Oladon› Btw, I might need to drop off fairly soon. It’s nearly bedtime here :(
19:57:19 ‹David› Oladon: But it is only 8(or nine?)!
19:57:27 ‹Oladon› 9
19:57:32 ‹Oladon› I get up early
19:57:42 ‹Jssra› Oladon: Start mix & matching ideas until something catches your fancy?
19:57:46 ‹David› 4? :P
19:57:52 ‹Oladon› I probably have another 10-15 minutes
19:58:09 ‹Oladon› The youngster concept has a bit of a spark
19:58:26 ‹Oladon› I like the idea that he’s a secret AI sympathizer
19:58:42 ‹Jssra› (Personally, I’d like to see someone play a nomad, because I want an excuse to delve into their culture. But if that doesn’t jive for anyone, that’s alright too.)
19:58:48 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› I can write what everyone else dose down and share it in google docs if ya like
19:58:59 ‹Jssra› Sounds good.
19:58:59 ‹Oladon› Jssra: Are there any nomads near the TQZ? ;)
19:59:17 ‹Khalil› What about that pleases you the most? (My char has a little bit to do with them, that’s where she got her eclectic cherry picking of shia concepts into secularist context came from)
20:00:35 ‹Oladon› Khalil: I like characters that have secrets that aren’t expected to affect gameplay a ton (that is, secrets that I don’t really care if the other characters find out about or not; things that don’t detract from others’ play)
20:00:52 ‹Oladon› Khalil: They often, in my experience, have ways of coming up in interesting times and places
20:01:56 ‹Alex Putnam› a.k.a. GM fuel. :P
20:02:02 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› so freedom fighter with dark secrets?
20:02:28 ‹Jssra› Oladon: There are nomads in the TQZ. Descendants of today’s Yazidis.
20:03:22 ‹Jssra› Oladon: But also, yes. The nomads check on the northerly parts of the TQZ on a regular basis.
20:03:39 ‹Oladon› Jssra: Then I think we could work something out. ;)
20:03:42 ‹Oladon› Alex Putnam: Precisely.
20:03:49 ‹Oladon› Seekerofshadowlight: nods Not too dark, mind you.
20:03:49 ‹Jssra› Cool. :D
20:04:09 ‹Khalil› My only quibble is since the AI are commonly believed to be genocidal or at least extremely dangerous to humans, is it that you agree, but think that’s a good thing, or you disagree and think they’re misunderstood?
20:05:01 ‹Khalil› ie, a character who’s deepest dream is to see everyone forcibly uploaded…in this setting could well come true in the chronicle. I might not mind that outcome! but I want to know what you have in mind with how you’d want to do it if that’s where you’re going :)
20:05:10 * David isn’t dangerous, but David is
20:05:27 ‹Oladon› One of the characters I got most excited about (and then didn’t end up getting to play :() was one wherein I’d asked the GM for a small amount of extra starting gold, and he offered me a deal in the form of a GM-decided debt to a GM-decided NPC :P
20:05:43 ‹Oladon› Khalil: Probably more of the latter, or possibly “there are some good ones among them” or somesuch
20:06:08 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› heh two of us are playing AGi’s
20:06:57 ‹Khalil› well that seems to be a strong common vein then; two AGi’s, one AGi sympathizer, and one “just let me find how reality isn’t as boring as it seems” neophile :)
20:07:03 ‹Jssra› (I suggest that it’s entirely reasonable to think that the TITANs saw something bad coming, forcibly uploaded as many people as they could “save” because mere humans wouldn’t understand, and then got the hell out of Dodge.)
20:07:08 ‹Khalil› and one addled surly thug o_O
20:07:15 ‹Oladon› Khalil: And I don’t imagine the youngster being an activist, just a secret sympathizer
20:07:37 ‹David› Seekerofshadowlight: How are you hidden?
20:07:51 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Well few would know krasnyy is an agi but it seems david is out as fuck lol
20:08:09 ‹Jssra› David: He’s wearing a biomorph.
20:08:14 ‹Alex Putnam› What morphs would both of you be using?
20:08:20 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› he is in a biomorph, has fake history, profile and never says he is a AGI
20:09:11 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› I do you think an agi combat program would go over?
20:10:00 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› He is not simply an aGI, he is one built for war, a pure combat persona left active to long
20:10:17 ‹Oladon› What sort of games do you guys enjoy, btw? I like heroic… my characters are (or will be, even if they don’t know it) heroes
20:10:28 ‹Khalil› Is he in rebellion against his main purpose of combat, embracing it or somewhere in between?
20:10:34 ‹David› I’m using as many flexbots as Jssra will allow me to mash together each running it’s own fork :D
20:10:40 ‹Oladon› Jssra has assured me that there’s plenty of heroic opportunity, but I’m curious if the rest of you are even looking for that
20:11:04 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› His trouble is " Under Gustave Provanco’s thumb"
20:11:12 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› he is controled my a mobster
20:11:13 ‹Khalil› I am all for heroic but I want the heroes tortured at least a bit, though they should in the end conclude they’re glad they stuck to their guns despite that
20:11:37 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› krasnyy lacks a human morality
20:12:01 ‹Alex Putnam› Seekerofshadowlight: What about Blue and Orange Morality? :P
20:12:12 ‹Oladon› Alex Putnam: Broncos?
20:12:32 ‹Jssra› As a tangent from heroism, how much grittiness do you all want? (I tend to like mine medium-high.)
20:12:42 ‹Alex Putnam› Oladon:
20:12:43 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› he is just now finding himself, so no he has no moral objections to about anything if the mission calls for it
20:12:54 ‹David› Seekerofshadowlight: We can work together! :D
20:13:09 ‹Khalil› I’m in with medium high too but not if it abrades the psyche of people. and I like orange and blue morality yes
20:13:53 ‹Khalil› though I would like human morality to still be the focus, just with the orange and blue as a counterpoint and general shake things up factor
20:14:06 ‹Oladon› Jssra: Could you define grittiness? I find that DM definitions vary…
20:15:24 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› here is what we have so far
20:15:34 ‹Alex Putnam› Yeah, some examples to go with the abstractness would help.
20:15:34 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› have i missed anything?
20:15:43 ‹Alex Putnam› Seekerofshadowlight: Are you co-GMing?
20:15:50 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› nope
20:16:02 ‹Jssra› Seeker is helping me work out crunchy bits.
20:16:59 ‹Alex Putnam› Any chance I can get editability?
20:17:08 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Let me look
20:18:11 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› seems I have to add your email to allow you to edit
20:18:53 ‹Alex Putnam› for Googley things.
20:18:57 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› i was simply trying to put something up everyone could see
20:19:33 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› ok try now
20:20:03 ‹Khalil› That’s right I think. Aspects for me would be Wrench wench, Ninja counterculturist, and Pursuer of Big Mysteries
20:20:35 ‹Alex Putnam› :)
20:20:36 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› whats your trouble Khalil?
20:20:39 ‹Jssra› Oladon: Grittiness has parts. One is how close to failure/death/insanity you want your characters to be pushed while grasping for victory, and what kind of lasting scars are you willing to take in the process? Another is how much of the people-being-vile to one another you want to see. (It goes on to greater or lesser extent – the question is whether you’ll position yourselves to find it.)
20:21:30 ‹Khalil› Someone’s after me for sticking my nose where it didn’t belong. Not sure who yet, but it’s made me quasi-nomadic. I live with a cheerful disposition despite my attempts to be crazy prepared to elude them
20:22:00 ‹Oladon› Personally, I think I prefer a low level of that sort of grittiness
20:22:12 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› So reletlessly hunted or someone wants my stack?
20:22:16 ‹Jssra› Oladon: Which axis?
20:23:36 ‹Khalil› More the latter? it’s still at cat and mouse, and so far, despite being the pursued, I’m actually the cat. but I know I could slip up anytime so that’s part of my urge to make myself useful to my contacts, in case I need a great deal of help unexpectedly
20:23:44 ‹Khalil› banking favours for the day the shit hits the fan
20:24:16 ‹Alex Putnam› Are we doing Phases before Aspects?
20:24:28 ‹Oladon› Jssra: Both, I think. I can think of exceptions to either, but I tend to avoid too much of either.
20:24:31 ‹Jssra› Alex Putnam: I was kind’ve expecting that you would.
20:24:36 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› she had them listed as 5 phases
20:24:46 ‹Jssra› Oladon: Okay.
20:24:56 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› what about faction Khalil?
20:25:27 ‹Khalil› Barsoomian (I think that’s what it’s called? the Mars independence acitivists)
20:25:32 ‹Alex Putnam› Jssra: I have a greater tolerance for “down to the wire” gritty than “everyone’s a backstabbing a-hole” gritty.
20:25:41 ‹Jssra› Alex Putnam: Works for me.
20:25:43 ‹Alex Putnam› Khalil: Yup.
20:25:53 ‹Oladon› Alex Putnam: That sounds intriguing, can you elaborate?
20:26:02 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Alex she has them listed as • Phase one: Who you were early on. • Phase two: The moment that crystallized you. • Phase three: The Fall. • Phases four & five: Crossing paths with other PCs. (Note that this is a suggestion, and the order of #2-5 can be shuffled to fit your story if necessary.)
20:26:07 ‹Jssra› (I find myself formulating a description in terms of pigeon grit vs. chicken grit, and realize this probably doesn’t mean anything to the rest of you. Oops.)
20:26:33 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Khalil: that is the one
20:26:50 ‹Alex Putnam› Seekerofshadowlight: Yup, I have the Obsidian Portal up, and the example sheet copied off into LibreOffice. :)
20:27:20 ‹Khalil› I am firmly against backstabbiness. friction is one thing, actual diametrically opposed agendas another.
20:27:29 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› i have mine written, give me a sec and i’ll toss em on the link
20:27:55 ‹Oladon› Agreed… though my first ever PFRPG PC was introduced to the group with a secret agenda to kill another PC. And it worked out amazingly. :P
20:27:59 ‹Oladon› (But I wouldn’t do that again)
20:28:12 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Ok mine are on the link if you wish to read
20:29:06 ‹Khalil› It has to be consensual if that’s how it rolls :)
20:29:24 ‹Alex Putnam› I meant more along the lines of “Everyone outside the party can’t be trusted because you’ll be doublecrossed just to be spited”, as opposed to “internal PvP”.
20:29:43 ‹Oladon› Khalil: It wasn’t. But the DM handled it really really well and managed to give my PC a strong reason not to do it just before I was ready to take the plunge :P
20:30:02 ‹Oladon› Alex Putnam: nodnod I don’t like not being able to trust anyone outside the party, agreed.
20:30:21 ‹Khalil› ah yah, no. I don’t want darkness induced audience apathy :) just a world with lots of tragedy, poor communication kills, and grey vs black stuff
20:30:36 ‹Jssra› Oladon: I know maybe one GM who could set that up good. It’s not me.
20:30:41 ‹Khalil› but its a LIGHT shade of grey at times :)
20:31:58 ‹Alex Putnam› Muddy white to off-black, not black and black. :P
20:32:41 ‹Jssra› Alex Putnam: You’ll be pleased to know that even Guanxi favors the motto that “a deal is a deal”, and tends to back it up with force. Double-crossing people gets more dangerous, not less, as you leave the zone of legality.
20:33:01 ‹Oladon› I don’t like lose-lose situations either… or antagonistic GM-player relationships
20:33:37 ‹Jssra› I don’t want either, though I’ll make you hunt for your wins from time to time.
20:35:02 ‹Jssra› (If it ever seems like I want the players to read my mind, someone please tell me so I can fix it. I hate it when that happens to me, and I don’t want to inflict it on others.)
20:35:58 ‹Jssra› Part of my task as GM is to give you all opportunities to be awesome. :D
20:36:22 ‹Khalil› I think odds are I’m going to end up playing the most goody good character here, but even I have some bad habits…secretive, sure she knows best, reckless, a bit prematurely jaded.
20:36:49 ‹Oladon› Khalil: My characters are pretty much always very good
20:39:01 ‹Jssra› Okay.. so how do you all know eachother?
20:39:58 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› unsure, no one has jumped out at me yet
20:40:08 ‹Jssra› David & Seeker’s characters, Khalil, Oladon, & maybe Alex’s seem to form two parallel groups.
20:40:38 ‹Khalil› Well, in the course of my cat and mousing with my pursuer I might have called in a favor for help from Seeker’s AGi
20:40:49 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› well i can see a what to connect to khalil pretty easy
20:40:55 ‹Khalil› I’ve done contracting for the mob with my engineering practice once in a while
20:41:03 ‹Khalil› (listens)
20:41:24 ‹Oladon› Khalil: Seekerofshadowlight: Do you guys plan on the other PCs knowing that you’re AGis?
20:41:31 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› That was along the lines I was thinking, as well as maybe having to work woth my boss on behalf og your faction
20:41:47 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› No, the other pc’s will not know
20:41:56 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› unless they find out somehow
20:42:29 ‹Khalil› Well I wasn’t even thinking of it as faction work. I don’t even know who’s after me. I just know they seem competent and dangerous enough, and I have enough toes I could have stepped on, I just know I don’t want them to catch up to me
20:42:37 ‹Jssra› Seeker: I was about to suggest that Provanco might have business with the Movement, and maybe even sympathy for it.
20:43:07 ‹Oladon› I need to head out, guys… sorry!
20:43:15 ‹Oladon› Good chatting, and perhaps we can do it again sometime.
20:43:18 ‹Jssra› Seeya Oladon. :)
20:43:19 ‹Oladon› :P
20:43:22 ‹Oladon› G’night
20:43:29 ‹Khalil› take care, sleep well
20:43:38 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› night Oladon:
20:43:49 ‹Jssra› (Khalil’s game has been smoke and mirrors under a variety of assumed identities, most of which she’d have to purchase somewhere. Her opponents are likewise not showing their faces or affiliations.)
20:44:09 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› well Khalil: you well could have done work for Provanco
20:44:53 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› so maybe you pulled a few jobs for him to pay for all that help
20:45:11 ‹Khalil› (nods to Seeker) yah, I mean, I knew a guy who did tinkering on hot tubs RL and he knew a few times he got called in for mob work because he was that good. wasn’t any problem he wouldn’t get to the bottom of fairly quickly.
20:45:30 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› heh
20:46:01 ‹Jssra› The mafia likes their luxuries. No matter which mafia we’re talking about.
20:46:01 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› that would connect you and krasnyy
20:46:14 ‹Khalil› there’s a town in the interior of BC that’s basically an exurb for marijuana dealers, the economy is about 1/4 them spending their profits on creature comforts.
20:47:05 ‹Khalil› I wouldn’t be surprised with the climate on mars to see something functionally similar if for different causes
20:47:06 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› I think that works
20:48:20 ‹Khalil› Oladon’s character would be easy to connect to mine since I’m agnostic on the TITAN thing but curious and have poked around the quarantine zone on Mars surreptiously
20:48:24 ‹Khalil› (the edges of it anyway)
20:48:56 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› ya know, it would be fun for krasnyy to connect with alexes pc over something non- crimnail
20:49:24 ‹Jssra› Alex Putnam: How does your character feel about slash metal? :D
20:49:40 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› ya see, Krasnyy is in an alpiner, so he needs to eat a why not have started chatting at this little ‘free speech’ rallying hole
20:50:08 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› which also has damned fine chilydogs..which may have real dogs in them
20:50:27 ‹Jssra› There’s this breed from the Phillipines… :P
20:51:14 ‹Alex Putnam› Jssra: Slash metal? :P
20:51:29 ‹Khalil› I make a good listener for radical rabble rousers. as long as they say stuff supported and somewhat intriguing, I’m fairly omnivorous for what interests me.
20:51:39 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› krasny likes slash metal
20:52:08 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› so that connects krasnyy to two pc’s
20:52:32 ‹Alex Putnam› Thrash metal? Or did you mean something else?
20:52:45 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Totally made it up
20:52:54 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Mars metal movement
20:52:58 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Slash metal
20:53:13 ‹Alex Putnam› Is it available on antiquated physical formats? :P
20:53:38 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› heh sure why not
20:53:40 ‹Alex Putnam› Security through obscurity sorta thing?
20:53:51 ‹Jssra› I’m sure some artisan is making vynyl the old way.
20:54:10 ‹Alex Putnam› Jssra: Then yes. Totally.
20:54:10 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› same little clube that plays it may be somewhere you go
20:55:07 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› now the fun part two do not need to pick the same connections
20:55:56 ‹Jssra› (I know there’s an underground kind of thing today for having music inscribed on Edison cylinders. It’s kinda awesome. For the same reason, vynyl will never truly die.)
20:58:25 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› be back in a few
20:58:55 ‹Jssra› Arright.
20:59:00 * Alex Putnam was consumed by the Chatbeast (NOM!)
20:59:03 ‹Jssra› David, you still here?
20:59:39 ‹David› Yep
20:59:45 ‹David› Silently reading
21:00:00 ‹Jssra› Like metal? :D
21:00:35 ‹David› Ehh
21:01:21 ‹Khalil› You’re running the thuggish guy, David?
21:01:39 ‹Jssra› Alright. What does your AGI like besides drugs? (And how does he get around the fact that he’s officially property on Mars? Forged identity as a “natural person”?)
21:02:32 ‹David› The drugs are a means to an end
21:02:46 ‹Jssra› ‘kay, so what’s the end?
21:03:27 ‹David› Recreating the virus/program interaction that gave him “true” sentience
21:03:48 ‹Khalil› he wants to reproduce…? or…?
21:03:55 ‹Jssra› Hmminteresting. Can you elaborate on that?
21:04:00 ‹David› He doesn’t mind being property right now. Anythign can be bought and sold
21:04:35 ‹Jssra› David: I’ll assume you’re Provanco’s other bodyguard for the moment, shall I? :P
21:04:54 ‹David› Sure
21:05:05 ‹Khalil› So we’re working with Those Two Guys ? :)
21:05:16 ‹David› :p
21:07:10 ‹David› Words hard :-k
21:07:19 ‹Khalil› and an astute point that being a wage slave is essentially a slave and anyone who needs any amount of currency to survive is to that degree in such a situation
21:07:43 ‹Jssra› David: Your character and Krasnyy seem like natural foils for one another.
21:09:19 ‹Alex Putnam› @_@ Weird random bluescreen. :wtf:
21:09:33 ‹David› Odd
21:09:54 ‹Alex Putnam› Looked up the error code, and it was generically unhelpful.
21:10:32 * David is going to assume his origins are lost behind a series of self modifying viral “attacks”
21:11:06 ‹Khalil› “my origin is so secret even I don’t know it, but I haven’t given up hope I’ll discover it?”
21:11:48 * Alex Putnam was consumed by the Chatbeast (NOM!)
21:12:03 ‹David› Don’t do it again Alex!
21:12:59 ‹David› More “I don’t need that! DELETE!” or “I probably have a backup somewhere”
21:13:13 ‹Jssra› David: So long as you don’t originate from Win98. :P
21:13:20 ‹David› ME
21:13:29 ‹Jssra› :wizfire:
21:13:50 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› I am back
21:13:57 ‹David› hiya
21:14:27 ‹Jssra› Rehi.
21:14:38 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› “kransyy will also be talking in Russian accent, becase English , is be how you say a bastard and his muse is stupid”
21:15:33 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› mostly as it amuses me
21:15:46 ‹Jssra› (English is a bastard. Of German & French.)
21:15:56 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› indeed
21:16:16 ‹David› Seekerofshadowlight: “We could probably hijack your language database and fix that… only minor motor function loss probably!”
21:16:16 ‹Khalil› with a goodly dose of anything its brushed shoulders with to boot
21:16:17 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› I also for the hell of it may make his morph female
21:16:24 ‹Khalil› it’s virtually a jumped up pidgin o_O
21:17:50 ‹Jssra› Seeker: Social media is pervasive enough that people will know you’re masculine-pronoun’d anyway, unless you toggle it to say otherwise.
21:18:12 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Yes I know
21:18:33 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Krasnyy is not sure one way or the other. But he is easy
21:19:08 ‹Jssra› reads that twice, snerks
21:19:33 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› that may also be true
21:19:41 ‹David› Jssra, how many flexbots can I smash together? :P
21:20:04 * Alex Putnam joins MarsDreaming
21:20:09 ‹Alex Putnam› @_@
21:20:27 ‹Jssra› David: After the second one, you need to put a point into Resources for each additional flexbot. :P
21:20:33 ‹Jssra› Alex Putnam: :tea:
21:20:47 ‹David› ‘kay! :D
21:21:13 * David wonders how small of a space he could take up with ~5ish
21:22:08 ‹Jssra› Each flexbot has a minimum size of ’medium-large dog’.
21:22:17 ‹Alex Putnam› On a borrowed compy while looking up maintenance things.
21:23:30 ‹Khalil› how do I post to the shared doc page in development?
21:23:51 ‹David› Give seeker your email address
21:28:16 ‹Jssra› David: Same question as for Oladon: What makes your character feel alive?
21:28:35 ‹Jssra› I’d also like an answer from Alex Putnam, but he’s busy.
21:30:01 ‹David› Alive? :-k
21:30:13 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› what is your pc’s name Khalil
21:30:46 ‹David› Khalil is Khalil! :P
21:31:27 ‹Alex Putnam› Sorry, computer surgery.
21:31:59 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› ok
21:32:07 ‹David› remember to not rub your socks on the floor for luck! :P
21:32:20 ‹Khalil› Yah, I’m Kendra, I thought we’d be using our char names for handles (giggles)
21:32:26 ‹Jssra› David: Words are hard. :P For me, it’s being up to my elbows in good soil. YMMV.
21:32:47 ‹Alex Putnam› Jssra: Rediscovering and savoring what’s been lost; recognizing craftsmanship where most would skip it.
21:32:53 ‹Khalil› my character is also called Diane to mainstream folk.
21:33:12 ‹Alex Putnam› Two more screws!
21:33:24 * Alex Putnam scurries off again.
21:33:28 ‹Jssra› Alex Putnam: Cool.
21:34:39 ‹Jssra› Is anybody planning to take Infosec at +3 or higher?
21:35:01 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Khalil what kind of jobs woulf you have done for Gustave Provanco?
21:35:22 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› I do not think I am no
21:35:24 ‹David› maybe
21:35:39 ‹David› But only so I can steal stuff!
21:36:20 ‹Jssra› David: You’ve got enough extra brains to be a DDoS machine if you feel like it. ;)
21:36:42 ‹David› So tempting :plot:
21:36:46 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Jssra does “hidden AGI soldier” or “Secretly made for war” sound better?
21:37:05 ‹Jssra› Seekerofshadowlight: The latter.
21:37:17 ‹David› Hidden Remnant of War
21:37:31 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Oh that one is good
21:37:45 ‹Khalil› I think I’d have been called to do some work on coordinated redundnat backups for his power source and environmental systems. compartmentalized, efficient stuff meant to minimize his profile to the “outside” for some of his choice bolt holes and lairs alike.
21:37:52 ‹Jssra› I like that.
21:38:11 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› that one i will go with
21:38:35 ‹Khalil› I tend to be good at integrating different functions to support each other, so that while routinely fulfilling their functions components for one system have some slack to support another. especially security
21:39:24 ‹Jssra› Khalil: The assorted nomads will also like your skills.
21:39:28 * David now wants to turn off life support in the middle of a fight
21:40:06 ‹Khalil› yes. I’ve hung out with them a fair bit, at first because it was profitable and then because I found them interesting
21:40:33 ‹Jssra› David: You could hack a ‘pod cyberbrain and turn off its lungs.
21:40:38 ‹David› Hehe
21:40:44 ‹Khalil› That would be an option David, for the “Taking you with me” or , if you’re prepared, as a “I don’t mind repairing freezing/low atmosphere damage to my possessions if need be”
21:41:41 ‹David› “I’ve got half a dozen cyberbrains, I bet one of them could survive longer than you can.”
21:42:26 ‹David› “Really, I’m taking bets. What will you wager?”
21:43:12 ‹Khalil› Marvin the Paranoid Android gone Bad? .
21:44:09 ‹David› “I don’t want to fight you, I left my good gun at home… so I’ll just stop your heart.”
21:45:22 ‹Jssra› (“Check your firearms at the door.” / “But it’s my good visitin’ gun!”;)
21:46:03 ‹David› “All of them?!”
21:46:41 ‹David› “But my favorite personality is in that gun!”
21:47:17 ‹Khalil› so what makes you have a soft spot for we non mobsters, then? o_O
21:47:19 ‹Jssra› (sigh “I suppose, if it’s implanted.”;)
21:50:14 ‹David› Nonmobsters pay protection money. ;)
21:51:04 * David offers Khalil health insurance that protects against acts of DDoS
21:51:53 ‹Khalil› …subscribs with alacrity and expenses it as “misc business expense: goodwill with the mob”;)
21:53:36 * David buys more flexbots
21:54:04 ‹Khalil› All about the flexbots ? o_O
21:55:12 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› here is what i have so far
21:57:28 ‹Jssra› David: I recommend taking some ranks in Medicine(psychosurgery) if you’re going to fork & merge all the time.
21:58:12 ‹David› I plan on it
21:58:22 ‹Jssra› Good.
21:58:24 ‹David› Khalil: FLEXBOTS EVERYWHERE!
21:58:27 ‹Jssra› Seekerofshadowlight: Street floods?
21:58:32 ‹David› Possibly everywhen too!
21:58:56 ‹Jssra› Seekerofshadowlight: Oh, wait. Street Foods.
21:59:09 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› yeah
21:59:20 ‹Khalil› what’s “Crossing 1” mean for aspect?
21:59:42 ‹Jssra› Khalil: An aspect that ties two PCs together.
22:00:40 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› it says something about your pc that came out in an adventuer with another
22:02:13 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Say for exsample two pc’s got into some trouble and while trying to get away you smashed open a lock to get out
22:02:25 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Maybe ‘smashing is always an option" for that pc
22:03:53 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Or something like "Thinks on his feet’ or “I can run with the best of them”
22:04:33 ‹Khalil› that makes sense. I am sorry I didn’t read the rules better first, I do have ideas
22:04:38 ‹Alex Putnam› And got things reassembled, although the Durandal Mk II is running CHKDSK.
22:05:01 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Its cool
22:05:04 ‹Khalil› …your computer is named for a bomb?
22:05:34 ‹Khalil› I’m actually falling asleep in my chair, didn’t sleep well
22:05:56 ‹Khalil› think I’m going to call it a night here but I will edit in my phases and stuff tomorrow
22:05:58 ‹Jssra› (My laptop is HAL2000. :P )
22:06:03 ‹Alex Putnam› Khalil: The sword the bomb was named after. :P
22:06:06 ‹Jssra› Khalil: G’night!
22:06:26 ‹Khalil› aaah okay
22:07:01 ‹Khalil› take care all
22:07:13 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› night Khalil:
22:07:42 * Khalil was consumed by the Chatbeast (NOM!)
22:07:46 ‹Alex Putnam› Jssra: Can you post the link to the common GoogleDoc doc?
22:08:21 ‹Jssra› Which link, and post where?
22:08:39 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› this one?
22:08:55 ‹Alex Putnam› Yes, thanks.
22:09:34 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› You’re welcome
22:09:40 ‹Alex Putnam› …I see not much was added to it while I was slicing my fingers on sharp plastic innards.
22:10:14 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Not much was
22:10:48 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› khali asked for the link then added nothing :)
22:10:57 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› I reworked a few things on another page
22:11:13 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› But you can add as you wish, he can as well
22:11:20 ‹Alex Putnam› So, how many PCs at this point?
22:11:33 ‹Jssra› Five.
22:11:42 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› us three and david have hard concepts
22:11:50 * David is 3 of them :-\"
22:11:54 ‹Alex Putnam› Just trying to ponder the phase 4/5 stuff while computer checks.
22:12:15 ‹Alex Putnam› And the fifth?
22:12:59 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Oladon:
22:13:02 ‹Jssra› Oladon hasn’t settled on hers, IIRC.
22:13:35 ‹Alex Putnam› orz I mean, right.
22:13:54 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Alex, what is your pc’s name?
22:16:21 ‹Jssra› David: I get the impression that something interesting is hiding under your characters’ surface, and I’d like to hear about it whenever you can attach words.
22:16:52 ‹Alex Putnam› Vincent Carter.
22:17:19 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› heh what kinda morph ya plan on?
22:17:35 ‹David› Of Mars? :P
22:18:02 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› He could not help himself
22:18:05 ‹Alex Putnam› David: Brain was too tired to make that connection, but appropo.
22:18:23 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Side note: i enjoyed that movie
22:18:34 ‹Alex Putnam› Seekerofshadowlight: Still haven’t had a chance to see it.
22:18:42 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Some folks hated it
22:18:50 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› it kinda bombed, I enjjoyed it
22:19:10 ‹Alex Putnam› Seekerofshadowlight: Customized Splicer or Hazer.
22:19:39 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› gotcha, just….i has idea’s…..
22:21:21 ‹Alex Putnam› Seekerofshadowlight: Mrr?
22:21:40 ‹David› I liked the books more
22:21:46 ‹David› Books are awesome
22:22:37 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› also….how long you been on mars?
22:25:48 ‹Alex Putnam› Presumably not very, as brainstormed with Jssra earlier.
22:26:00 ‹Alex Putnam› brb, egocasting to regular compy.
22:26:31 * Alex Putnam was consumed by the Chatbeast (NOM!)
22:27:15 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› heh wait to he sees how i know ol vicent
22:27:40 ‹Jssra› Sometime post-Fall, Vincent caught a Scum barge heading in-system, so he spent a good while in transit.
22:29:58 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› heh read his crossing path :)
22:31:12 ‹Jssra› Ha!
22:32:16 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› I took an apect “Those damned hormones!”
22:33:01 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› seemed fun
22:33:54 ‹Jssra› Having an endocrine system is supposed to be An Experience for creatures not born with one.
22:33:55 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› or maybe something like drug fueled frenzy or something
22:34:24 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Yeah, its why I played it up
22:34:30 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› he is also in a female morph
22:34:50 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› although he does not really id as a set gender
22:34:57 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› He just sounds better then it
22:35:27 ‹Jssra› And more human than ‘it’.
22:35:45 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› kinda one reason he uses he
22:36:00 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› krasnyy has decided he is not a thing and will not be called it
22:36:23 * Alex Putnam joins MarsDreaming
22:36:41 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Although i may need to rework the aspect a bit
22:36:59 ‹Jssra› Rehi, Alex.
22:37:14 ‹Alex Putnam› And all that still didn’t help because Windows Update borked Steam. @_@
22:37:50 ‹Alex Putnam› Jssra: Only 3 months, according to the charts. :P
22:38:02 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Lo alex, i have finished the tale of how krasny knows Vincent
22:38:42 ‹Jssra› Alex Putnam: 3 months minimal.
22:40:43 ‹Alex Putnam› We linking aspects to the phases?
22:41:38 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Three of them
22:41:42 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› any three
22:44:04 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› its nomraly three phases, Jssra made it five with you choosing 3 of those to make aspects from
22:46:18 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› what about “Hormones make me implusive?”
22:46:42 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› humm.,…..I shall work on it
22:53:45 ‹Jssra› I’m for bed. Leaving the window open for log capture.
22:53:48 ‹Jssra› G’night. :)
22:54:10 ‹Alex Putnam› Jssra: Night.
22:54:31 * Jssra changes his/her nickname to Jssra_zzz
22:55:21 ‹Alex Putnam› Seekerofshadowlight: Would Krasnyy in xir biomorph go by “Krasnyy”?
23:00:57 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› yep
23:01:13 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› Its Russian for red
23:05:32 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› His full designation is " Тактический Бой Программа Красный-47’ which translates to “Tactical Combat program Red-47”
23:06:40 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› So he just went with red, which if spelled in English is Krasnyy
23:26:24 ‹Seekerofshadowlight› I think I am gonna go crash, night all
23:26:38 ‹Alex Putnam› Same.
23:27:00 * Seekerofshadowlight was consumed by the Chatbeast (NOM!)
23:27:09 * Alex Putnam was consumed by the Chatbeast (NOM!)

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.
